Van singing, also known as Chau Van singing, is a traditional ceremonial music form closely associated with the serving-the-reflections ritual of the Mother Goddess religion. The low-lying land of Hà Nam is one of the cradles of this folk-belief system, with Lanh Giang Temple being the historical center of the spiritual tradition. The esteemed position of Chau Van singing as we know it today cannot be mentioned without acknowledging the significant contributions of People’s Artisan Pham Hai Hau who is native to the culturally rich land of Ha Nam. He overcame societal prejudices to restore, preserve, and pass down this intangible cultural heritage of the nation and humanity.
